Royal Salute is a brand of Chivas Brothers, so in Vietnam people still call them Chivas instead of Royal Salute. The name Royal Salute comes from the first bottle of 21-year-old whisky released in 1953 to celebrate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, with the number 21 symbolizing the number of honorary cannon shots.

In 2019, Chivas Brothers made a major change to Royal Salute 21. The new bottle and box design are made in a more sophisticated European style, with three color options, but the quality and traditional whisky style are still maintained.

The most prominent innovation is the introduction of two new versions of Royal Salute 21: The Malts Blend and The Lost Blend. The Malts Blend is the first Blended Malt Whisky bottle of both the Royal Salute and Chivas brands, blended entirely from malt whiskies without grain whisky. With a complex and diverse flavor afternoon, Malts Blend is the ideal choice for those who love the sophistication and uniqueness in every drop of whisky.
