Penfolds Bin 2 Shiraz Mataro is a unique wine from the renowned Australian winery Penfolds. It is made from a blend of the powerful Shiraz and Mataro (also known as Mourvèdre) grapes, giving it a rich and balanced flavour. Bin 2 was created in 1960, when Penfolds experimented with blending Shiraz with Mediterranean grapes, with Mataro being chosen to add complexity and depth to the Shiraz.
This wine opens with aromas of ripe black fruits such as plums and strawberries, along with spice notes such as black pepper and cinnamon. The oak ageing adds notes of vanilla, chocolate and a slight smokiness. The wine is full-bodied and soft with smooth tannins and a long finish, providing a rich and balanced drinking experience.
