The story of Flor de Caña rum begins in 1875, when Alfredo Francisco Pellas Canessa, a young adventurer from Genoa, Italy, arrived in Nicaragua. He initially invested in a steamboat route through Nicaragua, transporting passengers and goods from the East Coast to the West Coast of the United States during the height of the California Gold Rush. When news of the construction of the Panama Canal arrived, he set out on a new adventure and in 1890 he found the perfect setting for his rum distillery at the foot of the San Cristóbal volcano. With fertile soil, rich water resources and a hot, humid climate, Flor de Caña rum offers a unique and smooth taste.
