DESCRIPTION

Chimay is one of only 11 Trappist beers produced worldwide. Chimay is brewed at Scourmont Abbey, a Trappist monastery in Chimay, Hainaut, Belgium. There are four main ale styles produced here: Chimay Red, Chimay Blue, Chimay Gold and Chimay White. There is also a non-alcoholic vegetarian beer made specifically for monks but not sold commercially.

Chimay Blue, known as "Grande Réserve" in 75cl bottles, is a special beer of Chimay. Started by Father Théodore in 1948 and officially launched as Spéciale Noël Christmas in 1954, Chimay Blue has been an integral part of the Chimay range since 1956. It has an incredible ageing potential, developing a complex and deep flavour with age. Chimay Blue has a rich and complex aroma, combining ripe fruit and delicious chocolate. Flavors of creamy caramel and soft mocha also appear, bringing richness and variety. The beer has a beautiful warm, dark colour and a compact light brown head, making for a spectacular presentation. The beer starts with a slight sweetness, then moves to creamy caramel and soft mocha, combined with a spicy flavour. It finishes with a delicious candied fruit flavour and a pleasant lingering finish, giving a subtle warmth and a touch of pure chocolate.
