Caol Ila is a long-standing whisky distillery owned by the Diageo group (since its predecessor – DCL). Caol Ila 12 Year Old has a low peat content compared to other brands on the island of Islay. The difference in the way the distillery creates this 12 Year Old version is that after the distillation process, the whisky will be transported from the island of Islay to mainland Scotland and poured into Ex-Bourbon casks, then matured centrally in Diageo's warehouse. Caol Ila does not actually own any warehouses of their own, their mission is simply to distill.

Despite its modest appearance, Caol Ila 12 hides an irresistible sophisticated power and is also very popular around the world. Caol Ila 12 has a rich taste of barley, malt, floral aromas with accents of peat smoke and bacon. This whisky is suitable for those who do not like heavy liquids but still seek complexity and depth in flavour.
